A good range of stuff through the door today, which is typical, and why I love my job.

Keo cleats to be positioned on new shoes (old shoes were too big)- we see quite a few people with cycling shoes a fraction too big, whether it's done to get sufficient width or because they don't understand that a cycling shoe should be more glove-like than a hiking or running shoe. Then, because a cycling shoe pulls the heel firmly back into the heelcup of the shoe, the cleat can't be correctly positioned as the slots don't extend far enough back in the shoe.

After the Di2 bike last week, I am doing penance on a rusty SRAM type 7 speed hub- tinker, wriggle, oil, tap gently with a small hammer and so on! Not complaining, we love 'em all!

Things are still quite slow at The Bike Whisperer.  I am sure the ice and snow are keeping most (but not all!) our customers off the roads.  The carbon Planet X time trial bike (with full Dura Ace) goes to its new home on Friday.  Most of the work at the moment is building and re-building wheels.  Paired spoke wheels may look quite fancy, but they are difficult to true.   We really find the tensiometer is a really useful tool to make sure the tension around the wheel is even, in addition to the wheel being round and true.  This seems to be the critical element in building a wheel that lasts (in addition to making sure it has sufficient overall tension).

We had a really hectic run up to Christmas - doing fittings and plenty of wheel-building too.  But now things are extremely quiet and we are finishing up a couple of projects - a late 60s Holdsworth which has just been away for a re-spray - lovely pure white!  We will build this back up into a bike tomorrow probably.  And from one end of the spectrum to the other - a carbon Planet X time trial bike with Nokon and full Dura-Ace.  Both will be beautiful when finished - and the best thing is that their owners will love riding them.

We had a few bike fittings given as Christmas presents - so expect the recipients to be booking in soon.

Finally, we will be running some workshops fairly soon - so if you have any special requests just let us know (we can run a private workshop for you and your friends/family too).
